Global Technology Executive, Serial Entrepreneur, AI Leader

Our 2027 gala celebrates Amit Gupta (BE’99, Electrical Engineering, BSc’99 Computer Science). Gupta is a serial technology entrepreneur and executive whose innovations have helped shape the global artificial intelligence and semiconductor chip design landscape from Saskatchewan.

His entrepreneurial journey began with a capstone design project in his final year at USask Engineering, which led to the founding of his first technology company, Analog Design Automation, later acquired by Synopsys. He went on to found Solido Design Automation, growing it into a leading provider of AI-powered software for semiconductor design. In 2017, Siemens EDA acquired Solido and Gupta spent nearly nine years at Siemens EDA in executive leadership roles, leading its Solido Custom IC and AI organizations.

Today, Gupta is the senior vice-president of the AI Excellence Group at Synopsys Inc., where he leads efforts to advance AI across the company’s technology and products. Having built his companies and career in Saskatchewan, he remains deeply connected to his roots and has helped establish the province as a centre for semiconductor design and AI innovation with global reach, creating hundreds of technology jobs and building the province’s largest technology company.

Each year the C.J. Mackenzie Gala recognizes the achievements of a member of our alumni community who has attained a position of eminence within their profession. They are honoured as the evening’s Distinguished Lecturer and are inducted into the College of Engineering’s Alumni Wall of Distinction.
