Dean Search

About the search

Recruitment of senior administrators is one of the highest priorities of the university. Searches must be well-planned and commence in a timely manner to permit the consideration of a wide range of qualified candidates, to provide for a smooth transition between leaders, and to ensure continued momentum towards the university’s commitments and strategic goals.

A list of shortlisted candidates for the position of dean of the University of Saskatchewan College of Engineering (USask Engineering) was made public on November 22.

The candidates are:

  • Amy Hsiao, Professor, Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering, University of Prince Edward Island
  • Ramin Farnood, Professor and Chair, Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry, University of Toronto
  • Mehrdad Saif, Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Windsor

Interim Dean Carey Simonson has determined that he will not be pursuing the opportunity to serve as the next dean of USask Engineering, due to family considerations.

Candidate presentations

Each of the candidates shortlisted for the position of dean of USask Engineering has been invited to make a brief public presentation to the university community on the following topic: "What is your vision for the College of Engineering and how would you go about enacting that vision?"

The 20-minute presentation will conclude with a question-and-answer session during which time attendees can pose questions of the candidate.

All presentations will be recorded and will be made available for viewing following the presentation. A link to the recording will be provided and posted on the provost's office website once it is available.

Feedback on the presentations is strongly encouraged. All responses will be shared in their entriety and held within the confidence of the search commitee. Your feedback to the committee, via the chair, is critical in selecting the best leader for the college. Please submit your comments by 4 pm on Dec. 14, indicating your connection to the college (alumnus, student, industry, government, faculty, staff, other). Submissions can be sent via email to brittney.zaleschuk@usask.ca
