September Activities for Students

We wanted to inform and invite our students of the various events happening within the college this month. We look forward to seeing you this September: 

Sept 5: University of Saskatchewan Orientation

The official welcome for all first year students to the University of Saskatchewan. More details can be found online: https://students.usask.ca/events/orientation.php 

Sept 7-10: Class of 1953 and Class of 1962 Reunions

Joining the energy of the first week back, the College is pleased to welcome back our alumni from the class of 1953 and the class of 1962. If you see these alumni in the halls, take a moment to welcome them 

Sept 7-8: Safety Days (Second year & graduate students ONLY)

8:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Hardy Lab

All second year and new graduate students are invited to participate in Safety Days located in the Hardy Lab. Designed to facilitate safety knowledge amongst our students as they are introduced to various topics about safety within engineering. Thank you to K+S Potash Canada and APEGS for sponsoring the 2017 Safety Days. Sept 12: Engineering Advancement Trust Board Meeting

The Engineering Advancement Trust (EAT), composed of dedicated alumni, has donated close to $3.5 million to upgrade and replace laboratory equipment for undergraduate students. On September 12, our EAT board members will be meeting on campus – please welcome these alumni if you see them in the halls. Sept 12: Leadership Panel

In the spring, our college welcomed back three alumni, Mike Marsh, Mark Fracchia and Ken From, for a Leadership Panel, which was positively received amongst our college and campus. With the success of the spring event, the excitement to share their time, knowledge and experiences is growing amongst our alumni. We are proud to announce a Fall Leadership Panel with alumni, Myron Stadnyk (BE’85) – President & CEO of ARC Resources and Jonathan Wright (BE’86, MSc’89) – President and CEO of NuVista Energy. Sept 12: Hard Hat Ceremony Days (Second year students ONLY)

7:00-9:00 PM, Health Sciences 1150

An event exclusively for our second year students as they are welcomed into their respective disciplines. Reception to follow outside the Les & Irene Dubé Lecture Theatre (HLTHSci 1150). Thank you to K+S Potash Canada, APEGS, Devon Energy, and the Saskatoon Engineering Society for sponsoring the 2017 Hard Hat Ceremony. Sept 14: ESTW 2016 – Engineers Serve the World: Student Group Fair & Green Machine Challenge

3 – 5 PM, Hardy Lab: Student Group Fair

Open to all students, this event is designed to facilitate an introduction to the various student groups within our College. Come and support our students and learn more about the various groups open to student involvement.

5 – 9 PM: Sarcan Green Machine Challenge

The Green Machine Challenge is a design challenge to build the largest aqua duct with materials donated by Sarcan Recycling in a 45-minute time frame! All undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, alumni, and members of our community are invited to participate in the Green Machine Challenge. Sept 29: Open House

All day, various locations within in the CoE

The College of Engineering welcomes hundreds of high school students to experience life as an engineering student with campus tours, hearing from current students and our alumni.
