Study permits
The Government of Canada recently announced that it will require an attestation letter from the province where you plan to study, as part of the federal government's study permit application process. USask is awaiting further information from the Government of Saskatchewan regarding the process for study permit applicants to get an attestation letter. An update will be published once the process has been established.
Requirements and deadlines
When applying to a graduate program, it’s essential to review the specific admission requirements for your chosen program, as some may have higher or additional criteria beyond the general university standards.
Graduate programs start in September, January, and May. Check your program’s page for specific deadlines and details.
All applicants must also meet the minimum university requirements, including English language proficiency. International students can use our unofficial grade conversion links for guidance.
How to apply
During the application, you'll be asked for:
- Personal information such as your name, address, etc.
- Contact information of your three referees
- For your letters of recommentation, two of your referees must be academic contacts, and the third may be academic or professional
- Your complete academic history from all previous post-secondary institutions
The application takes about 30 minutes to complete. You may save your application and return to it later.
At the end of the online application, you will need to pay a non-refundable $120 application fee. Your application will not be processed until payment is received.
Find a supervisor
All Engineering graduate programs, including MEng and PGD, require students to have a supervisor.
Admission to our programs is competitive, so we encourage you to contact potential supervisors directly. To help make a strong first impression, your email should be clear, concise, and professional, providing the necessary information quickly.
After you’ve applied
All prospective graduate students at USask Engineering apply through our online application system. Once your application is complete, it is circulated to faculty members for review each week.
If a faculty member agrees to supervise you, your application will be processed, and you will receive a decision letter by email. Please note that, due to the high volume of applications, status updates are only provided when a faculty member agrees to supervise you or if the application is rejected.
If your application status shows as “Complete,” it is under review and processing. You will be notified of the outcome via email about two months after the application deadline. Remember, all programs require a supervisor.
Offer Letters
If your application is approved, you will receive a letter of offer by email. Follow the instructions in the letter to accept the offer before you can officially enroll in the program.

Yes. You will need to follow the instructions on the letter to accept the offer once approved before you will be officially enrolled in the program.
Minimum English language proficiency requirements for USask are found on the College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies website.
English test scores are valid for two years from the date of testing. They must be valid for up to and including the start of the application term. Students with invalid tests will need to take a new test for admission BEFORE being admitted to the program.
USask has prepared an unofficial guide for international grade conversions that is available online.
To receive an official evaluation of academic credentials and a grade conversion to a USask admission average, an application for admission and application fee must be submitted.
Tuition and student fees are charged at the beginning of each term (three terms per year).
Students accepted into MSc and PhD programs are generally funded to some extent by their academic supervisor(s) once they begin their research program. They may be able to access additional funds via scholarships and teaching or research fellowships. No special forms are required to request funding, scholarships, or fellowships at the time of application. Please note that MEng Students are not typically funded.
