
Ko appointed department head of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Seok-Bum Ko has been appointed head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering for a five-year term, starting July 1, 2025.

Professor Ko has been in this leadership role as the acting department head in 2021-22 where he guided the department through the approval of the robotics stream. Professor Ko has been a member of the College Review Committee, Nominations and Bylaws Committee, Executive Committee for Biomedical Division, Computer Engineering Program Accreditation Lead and served as a Graduate Chair. Professor Ko also leads a very large research group and is an active member of IEEE.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Jeonbuk National University, Korea, his Master's in Computer Engineering from Jeonbuk National University, Korea and his PhD in Computer Engineering from the University of Rhode Island, USA. Professor Ko joined the University of Saskatchewan in 2002.
Professor Ko has been honored with the most recent awards as Saskatoon Engineering Society Educator of the Year Award (2024), Engineer of the Year – Association of Korean Canadian Scientists and Engineers (2024) and IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Distinguished Lecturer (2024-25). He is also serving on the NSERC DG evaluation group for computer science (2024-27).
