USask Engineering faculty member and researcher, Dr. Fangxiang Wu, has been named a fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC).

USask Engineering faculty member and researcher, Dr. Fangxiang Wu, has been named a fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) for his exceptional contributions to artificial intelligence, computational biology, medical image analysis and complex bionetwork analytics.

The EIC Fellowship is a prestigious honour, recognizing distinguished Canadian engineers who have made significant contributions to the profession and society. Dr. Fangxiang Wu is one of twenty-four engineers across Canada to be named a fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada in 2026.

In addition to being named an EIC fellow, Dr. Wu was named a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a fellow of the UK Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in 2024. Dr. Wu is a professor and graduate chair of mechanical engineering, division of biomedical engineering and leads a robust research portfolio.

By developing advanced computational intelligence techniques tailored to biological and medical data, Dr. Wu’s research tackles some of the most pressing challenges in modern healthcare. These approaches enable innovative solutions in biomarker discovery, drug development, and the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of complex diseases, ultimately supporting more effective and personalized therapeutic strategies.
